LEGO is a necessity of every person’s childhood. It doesn’t matter your gender, race, or creed; everyone loves LEGO. It’s the classic toy that’ll never go out of style. What other toy gives you that immediate sense of gratification the second you’ve completed crafting a set, while also giving you the freedom to construct creations of your own making? Not to mention no other toy can make a child sit in perfect silence for such a long period of time. Yessir, nothing can compare to LEGO.
Needless to say, LEGO City sets are the perfect gift for kids. They’re fun, they keep ’em out of trouble, and they require a certain amount of brain power. You just can’t go wrong. So, without further ado, here are fifteen nifty LEGO City sets to keep an eye open for this holiday season.

Up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a – oh, wait, it is a plane. Lego Stunt Plane to be exact. While this toy plane can’t actually fly through the air, your kid will have so much fun assembling it that they honestly wont care once it’s complete… or they could be like my brother and just chuck the plane into the air in hopes of it flying, only to have it plummet back to the ground and shatter. Either way, your kid’s gonna have fun, and that’s all that matters, right?

LEGO can take the most obscure jobs and make them awesome. Honestly, no kid sits around and thinks to themselves, “Man, I hope someday I can be a cargo truck driver,” but LEGO still markets a toy based on a cargo truck and makes it look awesome. So it’s highly possible that LEGO Cargo Truck may be redirecting a few kids down a different career path sometime soon.

This aircraft a bit more intense than the first one on our list. This LEGO Cargo Heliplane can carry not only large loads inside, but hoist up items on its lift as well. The Heliplane also comes with a quad bike, lumberjacks, and some lumber.

This set pays tribute to the awesome professions of either being a coast guard or a diver… or both! LEGO 4X4 and Diving Boat contains two LEGO dudes, blocks to build a car and trailer, and a LEGO raft. Not to mention some diving gear for one of your guys. A simple set to construct, for sure, but definitely one of the more interesting ones at least.

Okay, I have to admit, this one’s a little random. Why is the bin on fire? Does someone really hate recycling? Is some yuppie trying to stick it to mother nature? Do fire motorcycles even exist? In any case, LEGO Fire Motorcycle will teach your children the importance of always carrying a fire extinguisher in their motorcycle sidecar.

Now this is a cool set. My favorites were always the one that played out scenarios or stories, as LEGO Museum Break-In certainly does. Plus nothing says teaching your kids good moral values like thievery!

Kids love construction toys. I can’t explain it, but the number of toddlers I’ve babysat who own toy dump trucks is alarming. So the LEGO Loader and Tipper is kind of ingenious; making those construction toys kids loved to play with accessible to a slightly older audience. Great thinking, LEGO.

What are the odds that a jewelry thief would happen to be running by (yet another) bin that’s on fire simultaneously as a kid’s falling off a skateboard? Pretty slim chances, but that’s what this set is going for. The LEGO City Starter Set allows your kid to dabble in firefighting, ambulance driving, and being a police officer; three incredibly noble professions. I’d highly recommend this set, in respects to our men and women in uniform saving lives on a daily basis.

Now this is a set I would have loved to have as a kid. It’s got everything. A bus, a crane, multiple buildings, bicycles, pizza, dogs, you name it. The nice thing about sets like this, besides taking even longer to build, is that there’s so much to do once they’ve been built. Not to say certain LEGO sets aren’t much fun in the aftermath of completion, but sets like LEGO Town Square really do increase the self gratification by offering lots of interacting with the completed set. This is probably one of the more spendy LEGO sets you’ll come across, but totally worth buying.

Even though all of NASA’s plans to send people into space are currently on hold, your kid can still pretend they’re next in line to head to the moon with the LEGO Space Moon Buggy. A simple set, but it can still be quite fun. Besides, the little LEGO dude comes with a space helmet. What more could you ask for?
LEGO Space Moon Buggy is available at eBay.
If you’re gonna get your kid the Space Moon Buggy, make sure to pair it up with the LEGO Space Shuttle. The Space Shuttle will allow your kids to boldly go where no man or woman has gone before – with a little help from their imagination, of course.

12. LEGO Cargo Train
I don’t know what LEGO’s obsession with cargo is, but you can’t deny they don’t have one. That being said, the LEGO Cargo Train fits right into the cargo category. This train totes around cargo cars, cargo tanks, cargo trailers, you name it. The perk of this train is that it’s controlled by remote control, so you can make the train run with the simple perk of a button. LEGO certainly couldn’t do that when I was a kid!

See? What’d I tell you. LEGO loves cargo, which is again proven in yet another set. True, the cargo in the LEGO Monster Truck Transporter happens to be monster trucks, which is pretty bad ass as far as LEGO goes, but still.

14. LEGO Police ATV
Who steals diamonds with a wheelbarrow in this day and age? Is this robber living in the seventeenth century or something? Anyway, irritating plot point aside, the LEGO Police ATV is another simple set, but great if your kids prefer playing out scenarios with LEGOs as opposed to long builds.

15. LEGO Patrol Car
Nowadays crime tends to be overtly glamorized by film and television, so it’s probably best to remind your kids why that isn’t the case. LEGO Patrol Car will show your kid crime doesn’t pay, especially when you look as creepy as the LEGO robber in this set.
