Would You Play Star Wars Gladiators? [Concept]
Star Wars Gladiators is a (rather rudimentary) video game concept posted by a user on Comic Book Movie (CBM). It’s been getting some positive feedback on that site, and I found it to be an interesting idea, so I figured I’d see what you guys think. Star Wars Gladiators was created by Christopher Fort, and is essentially a Star Wars version of Mortal Kombat. The designer has explained the game in detail and included a (hypothetical) full character list as well as describing the different game modes. Also, he’s created a basic piece of game artwork that was made by using Microsoft paint. (Impressive for Microsoft Paint.) Some funding, and some media attention, and that problem could be easily improved, but a good start.
Christopher Fort proposes that Star Wars Gladiators be played in a 2.5D plane setting, like it is done in Mortal Kombat. He also proposes that the game encompass Star Wars characters from every era, and not just a specific time setting, and thinks that the game should be rated M. Note: if the game were to be created, it wouldn’t be rated M, because I can only think of two LucasArts games that are rated mature, but it would be a good change-up.
Here’s the full character list, as given by the creator:
1. Qui-Gon Jinn
2. Obi-Wan Kenobi – Padawan, Master, Master (Ep. 3)
3. Ben Kenobi
4. Anakin Skywalker – Padawan, Knight

Chris has also put forward the game modes of Arcade, Saga, Jedi Training, Online and Local, as well as the Jedi Archives and Clone wars modes. (These modes are described in detail on the original concept page.) The game play mechanics have not been completely thought through, but I’m assuming that they would be some sort of button smashing. (Did I ever tell you guys that I beat Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe by repeatedly pressing X?). Perhaps more complex – Arkham Asylum style?
Leave a comment – I’m interested to see if anyone besides me finds this to be an interesting video game concept. Perhaps I am strange and alone, and have a strange taste in games, or perhaps we have a good idea in the works.
