Star Wars Lightsaber Handrails on Japanese Trains
In order to help advocate the launch of the Blu-Ray version of the Star Wars saga, Japanese trains have had their traditional handrail replaced with Star Wars Lightsabers. Ken Ogawa is a LucasFilm representative and Japan, and the initiative was his doing. Also, the posters that are in the passenger cars, but nobody cares about those. Strike me down, and I shall become more powerful than you could ever possibly imagine! *Making lightsaber mouth noises*
These lightsaber handrails are a great example of geeky design, and are sure to put a spark into any mundane train ride. Literally, since these things are pure electrical energy, and they’ll send a shiver deadly electrical current down your spine. A great way to spike up your hair though, as long as you don’t mind the charred look.
Will the Star Wars Blu-Ray discs be a big hit? Personally, I would rather have them just remake all of the movies than have them try to make me buy the same movies I already own on a different format. I understand that the Star Wars story has already been told, but there are so many side stories that could be created into more Star Wars movies, and I feel that George Lucas isn’t taking advantage of the saga’s full potential. For the moment, however, we can blame the lack of extra Star Wars ventures on the fact that the Star Wars The Old Republic MMO is being released soon, and that it is essentially the make or break element of the Lucas corporation.
