Facebook Blocking Google+ Invites
Is Facebook blocking Google+ invites over its platform? Google is claiming that Facebook has recently begun stopping members from sending invites to the Google based social media site. Not surprisingly, Facebook has denied the allegations.
What motivation might Facebook have for blocking Google+ Invites? The most obvious answer is that Facebook is trying to prevent a rival from gaining market share. It is no secret that Google has lost some market share because of the emergence of Facebook. However, it would seem unusual that a social media site would try to restrict access to something. It seems to go against the reason why social media was founded in the first place.
Google+ was what Google came up with to try to take back some of that market share. Google+ has the same features as Facebook including the ability to add friends, form groups of friends and add status updates. Google +1 was also recently launched as a way for a user to indicate quality content, much like the Facebook “Like” button that can be found on most web content, or on Facebook itself.
Blocking Google+ Evidence
What evidence does Google have that Facebook is blocking Google+ invites? This video claims that many members have had issues with sending invites and that Facebook is intentionally blocking those requests. Facebook claims it may have simply been an issue with anti-spam software.
Another claim being made in the above article is that perhaps Google is simply throwing out propaganda. It is plausible that Google is crying foul to make Facebook look bad. Even if that is true, any business does have the right to control its own content.
Even if a user has trouble getting an invite to Google+ there are many other ways you can get an invite. One way is to simply ask a friend who uses the service to send you an invite. Another easy way to get an invite is to obtain a GMail account and ask Google to send you an invite.
This is probably not the last fight between the two Internet giants. Facebook and Google are the two most recognized, and highly used, Internet services in America, if not the world. Each will spend a lot of its time not only trying to make its own product better, but to make sure that its specific brand is ultimately viewed as the authority of the online experience.
Being one of the giants on the internet, Google+ seems to be promising as shown by all the features and benefits it provides thus far. Google+ has been around for around two months with more than 25 million users already registered for an account with a free invite. Invites are limited during this trial-test, but you can still get an invite at www.googleinvites.net.
