Desk Pets Tankbot: It May Be Better Than A Dog
If you are feeling a little lonely in the big city, but aren’t really sure whether you are ready to get a dog yet, then why not try getting a Desk Pets Tankbot first? Yes, Desk Pets has recently released a small four-wheeler pet called a Tankbot that fits onto the palm of your hand. It comes in four different colors, has various play modes and can also be controlled by an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, or an Android phone or any Android device. This roving gizmo can now be found at retailers everywhere for a very affordable price.
This little robot has three configurations altogether. Its autonomous mode uses infrared sensors that helps it overcome obstacles, its free-roaming option lets it roam around aimlessly, and its free mobile application puts a dual joystick control onto your iPhone’s screen or a universal remote that you can use to steer it with your Android phone. The universal remote can be connected to your Android phone through its headphone jack. Just make sure that your device is compatible for it before buying one, though. You can also charge your robot with its built-in retractable USB charger through any Android device that has a USB host.
Without a doubt, a lot of great remote control toys have popped up recently that can be controlled with an Android device, such as the BlueDrone Race Car and the Parrot AR drone. However, those toys are still quite expensive, so a Desk Pets’ Tankbot would definitely be a welcome alternative to that if you don’t want to shell out too much money on a mini-bot.
Aside from all of the features mentioned above, the Tankbot can also use its built-in infrared sensors to control its gestures and it has heartbeat eye lights in front to tell you when your robot is idle. Aside from that, every Tankbot also has a dongle that can work with an app, allowing for the toy’s accelerometer control on your iPhone or Android.
Of course, you shouldn’t expect to enjoy too much action and fun from this little tech toy, though. In fact, its retractable USB part might only get you fifteen minutes of play time at most. However, Desk Pets are currently open sourcing their Tankbots with hopes of getting cool ideas from developers to spice them up a little. Stay tuned!
