The AR. Drone Quadricopter is more than just another RC helicopter, and, in my opinion, is an even cooler concept than the Air Hogs Hawk Eye!

Four Propellers

The Parrot AR.Drone is a quadricopter, which means that it has four propellers that allow it to hover with ease.  This drone doesn’t come with a remote control.  Instead, it allows you to download an app from iTunes.  With this application loaded on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch, you can use the accelerometer to control it!

Streams Video

This copter is, in a sense, a video game.  The AR. Drone Parrot streams video via its own Wifi to your phone so you can see where you are piloting your craft.  This baby generates its own Wifi, so there’s no need to drive around searching for free Wifi.  There are two cameras on the AR. Drone Parrot Quadricopter: the top camera and the bottom camera.  Creative names, right?

Two Cameras – Run By iPhone App

The top camera isn’t really on the top.  It gives you a straight view so you can see the obstacles in front of your helicopter.  The bottom camera is, literally, on the bottom of the drone.  You can get cool views of your house from above with this camera.  The only thing I didn’t like about this RC chopper was the video streaming speed.  If you look up a video of someone using this device, the video feed is jerky on the iPhone.  It sort of… skips.  Check out a video of the AR. Drone Copter and you’ll see what I mean.  Despite this fact, I love this gadget!

Where to Buy AR. Drone Quadricopter

The AR. Drone Parrot is available at Brookstone - shipping now.  It is a little bit pricey – 299 dollars.  Also, note that the foam shown in the picture above can be removed, but I would use it.  It’s there so the propellers don’t scratch anything, or anybody, and so they don’t break.  Or you could remove it if your aim was to fly the craft into a group of people out on an evening stroll, poke out a few eyeballs, and go to jail.  Then you should remove it.
